Industrial Climber Course

Who Should Attend?

These courses are aimed at personnel working or expecting to work in high or exposed transmission towers, masts or pylons. No previous experience is necessary but candidates should be of a reasonable level of fitness.

The basic course is for personnel occasionally required to safely access towers and masts using in-situ or removable access systems, under supervision.

The advanced course is for workers regularly engaged in industrial climbing activities, involving team management and rescue procedures.

Course Aims

The courses aim to introduce modern concepts and procedures for working at height. Methods and procedures have been designed in such a way that the trainees will see the obvious benefits of the procedures and equipment in assisting, rather than hindering, working progress and overall safety. It is therefore hoped that this will then be adopted as an inherent part of the everyday working culture of the trained operatives. Legislation affecting working at height will be discussed throughout the course, and emphasis will be placed on use of risk assessment and application of safe working practices.

Certification

For both courses assessment will be carried out by continuous instructor appraisal. Written question papers may also be used to assess attendees.Successful candidates will be issued with a certificate of competence.

The courses comply with UK Fall Arrest Regulations, Work Positioning Regulations and LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations) and other UK legislation
